Palamida Appoints Mark Tolliver CEO
Industry Veteran to Lead Venture focused Software IP Integrity; New Software Industry Segment Emerging
SAN FRANCISCO - May 2, 2005 -
"Palamida is a unique opportunity and I'm very excited to be joining the team," said Tolliver. "We're in an object-oriented, outsourced and open-sourced world, and organizations are anxious to take steps to ensure that the software they build and sell is created within a responsible policy framework for use and protection of intellectual property. Palamida has a terrific team, experienced investors and a strong base of technology with which to deliver world-class products and services to meet this need."
"Attracting a world-class CEO to any start-up is proof-positive of the quality of the technology and market opportunity," said Mitchell Kertzman, partner, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and Palamida board member. "Automated software intellectual property management and compliance is one of the truly new application spaces to emerge in the past five years. Palamida, under Mark's leadership, couldn't be positioned better in this space."
At Sun Microsystems Tolliver was executive vice president, marketing and strategy, and chief strategy officer. In that role he was responsible for corporate marketing, product and business strategy, mergers and acquisitions, industry marketing and independent software vendor (ISV) programs. Tolliver was with Sun for ten years, previously serving as president and general manager of iPlanet, a division of Sun focused on Internet infrastructure software.
Prior to iPlanet, Tolliver served as president of Sun's consumer and embedded division. Under his direction, the organization delivered software and core Java technologies used to create network-connectable applications for consumer and embedded devices such as automobiles, set-top boxes, telephones and smart cards. Before joining Sun, Tolliver was vice president of marketing at MasPar Computer Corp. and spent 16 years at Hewlett-Packard Company.
"Software IP is a major enterprise asset," added Tolliver. "Palamida's leadership in developing solutions for IP integrity management goes beyond just policy management. It's also about establishing a competitive advantage by integrating the use of in-house development, third party components and open source software and fully participating with the communities and companies that contribute to each."
