Motorola's Java
This is a big one...Motorola today announced that they were forming a project to build an open-source J2ME - like product, and will do it under an apache license.
Wow. If you think back a few years, motorola was one of the early and large licensees of Java, and contributed a lot to its visibility and growth. And now this. Its a wake up call to sun to get busy and finish the open sourcing of Java we've heard about, although it may be too late for that if this catches on. And for everyone else who is considering anything other than a mainstream license - think again. There is less and less room for that - the Apache license looks pretty good to me.
I bet we haven't heard the last of this...
